Topic: Level props and other gimmicks

Prototype bubble shield idea,, what do you guys think so far ? Shield is a sprite , with refractions and chromatic abrasion  ( splitting light colors around edges )
The texture used to deform the refraction is incorrect here so the distortion shape is incorrect at the moment.

Also an experiment mixing the official leaked Magnetic shield with the custom shader here.. it looks very nice when seen in motion. ( I may just make some new electric shield textures from scratch as seeing the leaked stuff is just enlarged Sonic 3 shields with added pixel detail here and there.)

I can't wait to see it in action to get a better idea of what animation it used, but it look great so far.

Oh yeah, i forget to mention earlier: Nice to see the re-creation of the Death Egg stage.

I'm waiting to see Jade Guly, but see picture of new stage (no matter which one) is still cool.

I was wondering, is the saturn capable of producing a similar effect? If so I think we've underestimated the graphical power of the system. Even if it doesn't it really adds to the sense that Sonic is a 3d model rather than a sprite.

I really don't think Saturn could pull off the effect,,, but who knows !?

The Saturn could do transparencies, but AFAIK Burning Rangers is one of the few games that really used it.

The topmost pictured shield looks pretty neat, but I personally have a little trouble actually seeing it. Is it supposed to be that transparent?

Well it'll be noticeable due to the warping inside the bubble, which is actually what I was inquiring about.

Thought you guys may like to take a look at some progress for shield and water distortion shader.
*getting them to work with one another was a bit of a challenge.
*Shield refraction effect has also been improved since last screen, (its a round refraction effect now) it still retains the same bubble overlay texture though.
*Level is just a test areas for the water, It wont be used in the final game.
*I wanted to keep the water effect simple like the Genisis games, when seen in motion its really not so bad looking.

Should have used darker textures when making the video,,, crap .. ahh well I don't have time to make another one today. ( busy working on the house)
Anyways what do you guys think of the under-water concept?
( It may be hard to see but the water effects also uses a fisheye like effect)

I like the idea, but it seems kind of disorienting. Do you think you could you make the wiggle a bit less pronounced?

Okay guys, thought it'd be cool to show this,
Recreated all the shields from Sonic 3 for Project AXSX,
Each frame got the same 32 bit detail enhancements per shield.

And in game, Yes I know the bubble like shield looks out of place, may change that later. ( looks better when seen in game fully animated mind you.)

These are very much still a work in progress.

*Monitor screen has new custom animation.
*Prize icons and score icons have been done in such a way so that the animations are exact to that of the classic sonic games.
*The star bumpers also include score of 10 with a limit of 10 hits adding up to 100 points.
*The enemies and breakable blocks also create chain combos with score increments of 100 200 500 1000 and 10,000.



To do:
*Monitor frame textures will be replaced with some custom stuff.
*The score point and Monitor icon prize will receive updated textures later to match Sonic X-Treme's style.
*Lots more stuff!

Other notes:
We've even went as far as including a 1 frame delay between the transition of Monitor and monitor broken model.

I love the "interactive visual tech" you came up with, really cool feature, especially the one that's basically the ground protruding up into a hill that follows sonic, though it's a bit disorienting. It reminds me of NiGHTS. Cool updates overall, lookin forward to the SAGE release.
