Topic: Ducking Sonic Sprite

Request:
Custom ducking Sonic sprite resembling the Genesis Sonic games hands over head pose.
The animation should consist of no more than 1 frame for each Sonic direction.

My recommendation would be to combine parts of the available Sonic X-treme sprite sheet that is uploaded in the File Swap Central section of the forums.
Get it here: http://www.sonic-xtreme.com/forums//vie … php?id=483

Notes and thoughts
1: Please only use the sheet supplied on my website as there are multiple versions available online which may have issues like color inconsistencies if compared with my sprites.
2: If using programs like Photoshop , disable anything to do with Antialiasing. thanks
3: I think a good facing down Sprite to start with would be in the RUNLLEFT/Used Folder.
( keep in mind that each folder contains a used folder which has individual sprites housed inside, these should be the sprites that are edited as they are already set up for proper spacing)
4: Check out all the folders to find something that may be useful.

P.S. Good luck and thanks.

edit;  cool

edit edit: this is not from your media fire link ill go thru everything later ill probally find something better and get the angles down but this one i edited is not even ANM so dont use it

edit edit edit: so i just read up top that you want sonic to be in the original sonic 1 crouch form ill mock one up later but to me i always hated the basic scared sonic crouch with a crouch more like this i feel like we can take him more seriously but ill mock one up later to see how it looks

pretty good,

Could we try a few variations using some other sprites as well?

How about one of these for the head starting point?
It has good view of the spines that match the other sonic render angles.
(Can be found in the RUNLEFT folder.)

Is that sonic peaking out ? lol
Have you checked it with the standing sprite to see how it looks in motion ?
something seems a bit off yet.. hmmm maybe the head needs to move over a few pixels to the left ?

You did a great job, but one thing. The "diagonal" sprite's head (2nd one starting from the left) is a bit out to the side. But wait, why do we need ducking sprites? Aren't we supposed to be making this as close to the original as we can?

Sonic has a spindash , so he needs to duck to be able to use it. or at least I would assume so.

Re: Ducking Sonic Sprite

Yes, but there's never been any ducking frames between Sonic standing and Sonic spin-dashing in any X-Treme video I've seen. From what I can assume, it's just like Sonic 3D Blast where ducking was removed and instead of holding down on the D-Pad and B while standing to spin-dash or down on the D-Pad while walking to roll, (Like in Sonic 2 and 3) you only hold down B while standing to spin-dash and B while walking to roll.

In fact, even SRB2, which shares a few similarities with X-Treme, does something like this where you hold down X to charge up your spin-dash and X while walking to spin, though you can change the key for this option, and it works fine.

By the looks of things he just goes straight into the "spindash" animation as soon as the player pressing the button. I don't think there was ever a long lost "ducking" sprite animation. The 718 build and I swear none of the PC builds show Sonic ducking before the spindash move.

Re: Ducking Sonic Sprite

Well, in the very least we could add it to all the two player mode sprites we're making just in case we can add it in. I believe the idea is for a 2D perspective for them?

Edit: I actually found evidence to support Andrew's position.

It may not have been implemented when the videos were created or they pressed both buttons very fast.

At this point it does not look like there will be any kind of 2 player mode ... programming for 2 players is way past my level of UDK programming understanding. Also my programmers say that if we did a 2 player mode we'd nearly have to start the project over from scratch. So unless I find a UDK programmer who wants to tackle a 2 player mode, This idea going to be sitting in the trash can.

Re: Ducking Sonic Sprite

So it's not as simple as just adding in a second character and a second camera that works identically to the first, and basically having the computer running 2 identical worlds imported from single player with positions synced (similarly to how PSO for Dreamcast does Internet multiplayer)? I guess it would bump the system requirements up, too, since it would all be running from a single machine in this case, but only for 2 player.

Meh, I guess multiplayer really isn't that important in the context of the game, anyways.  neutral
