We are shooting toward a Christmas tech demo, probably featuring the same level from last year's closed beta. I'll try and expand upon it though.
this one will be public for everyone!

http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/7154/unknownenemymockup.png

here is a mock up of an unknown enemy

here is the original
http://info.sonicretro.org/images/2/27/SonicXtremeUnknownEnemy01.gif
hardly usable + i have not seen it used in sonic x-treme levels but i have seen it in test levels but used in the middle of blocks

i think the enemy should work as the chameleon robots work the are un-seen then come out the wall and swing at you with there tentacles

just an idea this was not a serious sprite edit just made it with the paint brush tool in 10 seconds let me know what you think  cool

edit: i dont think an enemy like this should be found in jade gully but places like the galaxy fortress i think it would work really well

68

Re: New engine!

I don't think it needs the longer arms, could be hanging in narrow allieways

Re: New engine!

true maybe climb up and down? or stay stationary?

edit: maybe later ill make legit version with longer arms and sparks coming from them so we can compare and contrast because im having trouble even understanding what it is and why it would burrow itself in narrow passages

Re: New engine!

Techdiff, do you think the "Unknown enemy" is an advanced type of a orbinaut or star pointer? It maybe missing it's round spikes or star pointers.

Re: New engine!

good connection

to me it looks as if it is just part of a machine maybe

in my eyes the sprite is definitely incomplete maybe it uses its wires to swing sharp objects at you its hard to tell i feel as we are missing all the sprites for the arms hmm

Re: New engine!

There are no words... It's like I'm living in a dream... Sonic Xtreme may become a reality... I don't believe it...

I dream of the existence of that game. I dream of holding that giant Sega Saturn case (and it actually looks like this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/49/Sonic_X-treme_Coverart.png), putting the disc into my Sega Saturn, and playing the game forever... I'm sick of pretending the hub world of Sonic Jam is the Saturn's true Sonic game - although that game is awesome.

You know, it would be extra awesome to have this fan made game actually be made for the Sega Saturn (like a real Sega Saturn disc is made with a professional looking Sonic Xtreme title and artwork that is printed on the disc) along with a manual (front cover looks like this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/49/Sonic_X-treme_Coverart.png) and cool back paper artwork... Everything needed to imagine that the game was never cancelled... I mean, it would be super cool if the game was download only, a little bit cooler if it was on a PC disc (partly because it would mean a tangible copy), and a little bit cooler if it somehow got released for the 3DS (of course it would have to be ported by Nintendo but the 3D effect would work really well for it), but it would be perfect if it was released for the Saturn, the console it belongs on.

So the Saturn version was going to be a little bit better than the PC version? Cool. Also, is it true that one guy has the only playable Saturn or PC version (what one is it?) of Sonic Xtreme? Or was that the Nights engine demo thingy? Guess that won't matter when you guys make the game but it would've made things easier I guess. Why is that guy hogging the game anyway? Can't someone knock on his door and give him like, $5,000 for it or something? Why doesn't he at least make a copy or something? It's so annoying. Does he not understand that by hogging the only copy of it, he's making it a lot harder for the full game to be made?

Anyway, I really like games with dreamlike atmospheres and DAMN! Sonic Xtreme is fucking dreamlike and I love how there's no stupid humans walking around anywhere in the game. It feels like Sonic 100%; like I actually get the Genesis games vibe from it. Sure, the Sonic Adventure games are just as good but they don't feel as "Sonic." Seeing those extremely dreamlike Jade Gully screenshots made me wanna cry; the game is just beautiful. The sunsets really make it all shine. I also like how it's heavily platform based which is how Sonic games should be; not too much focus on the speed. By the way, I love the fish eye effect and never felt sick by it. I also like seeing classic Sonic in another true 3D Sonic game (currently, classic Sonic is in one true 3D Sonic game; Sonic Jam (3D Blast doesn't count because it's isometric and Generations doesn't count because his gameplay is 2D)). It would've been the perfect game to join Crash Bandicoot and Super Mario 64 instead of Sonic Adventure.

I'm liking the progress and hope that one day soon, Sonic Xtreme will be 100% exactly the same as it would have been. I was liking Project-S until I discovered they were making a game inspired by Sonic Xtreme... Guess it would've been cool, but nothing will match the awesomeness of EXACTLY THE SAME! big_smile

Wow what a read ! You know ? I feel the same way !
Although I cant see this happening on Sega Saturn,
Would need to wright a new engine from scratch, unless someone knows how to port UDK to Saturn hahah.( I don't have the skills for either)
p.s. I don't think anyone can make the game 100% the way it would have been,
I'm making it,,,  more like how it could have been. even the creators didn't know how the game would have been , as they only got so far. alot of the project was planned out, but it didn't seem to have all its gameplay ideas set in stone.

On other news, I may not be able to make the X-mas demo by X-mas,
I'll try and get one out by new years though !
Ive been working very hard on it the past few weeks..and many long hours into the night.

Re: New engine!

As long as you replicate up to the point that's been done (the game was 70% done, right?), then expand it from there in a way that the developers might have, then I think that would be fine. Also, all you need to do is finish and polish the PC version. From there, tackling a Saturn version would probably be a lot easier. Maybe one day we'd hold a Sonic Xtreme Saturn CD the same way we can actually hold a Starfox 2 SNES cartridge. Or maybe after you make the PC version, someone at Sega sees millions of people downloading the game, gets smart, and decides to release it for the 3DS. At this point, I know the game will be created because even if you cancel the project, someone else will keep taking over until the game is made. Those Youtube videos supply an infinite amount of will to create the game.

By the way, if they couldn't release the game in time for Christmas why not... I don't know... RELEASE IT FOR NEXT CHRISTMAS? You don't put a deadline on a game like that because even if it was released back then, no matter how good it may have turned out, it would've turned out even better if there was no stupid deadline. They should've kept working on it until it was finished and without the unnecessary "deadline" stress. You know, if Christmas never existed or if people didn't buy so many games during that time, the game may have been created back in 1996... By the way, that Tiara character fits perfectly in the Sonic Universe for some reason. Maybe it's because she was made during the "Sonic can't suck days." I don't know... Also, the whole game has an awesome 90's feel to it.
